The Rs 2,250 crore project is delayed by a year, and NBCC is expected to complete it by 2020. IECC is expected to be a one-stop venue for international and domestic events, summits, conferences, and high-level ministerial meetings.

The city will have a new landmark and business center by July 2020, the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), said after revising the deadline for the ambitious project.

NBCC has said it will partially hand over the Pragati Maidan complex redevelopment project next week with three of the five exhibition hall nearing completion.

The mega convention center will be 32.4-meter tall landmark building with a capacity of 7000 people in a single format as well as an amphitheatre with 3000 people and would be five-time larger than Vigyan Bhawan.

“We will handover three exhibition hall by November 10 and rest of it will be handed over by July 2020,”

said an NBCC official

The convention center will include 22 meeting rooms, special areas for high-level and international dignitaries and a rooftop helipad with elevator access for VIPs. The exhibition segment of the integrated center shall have seven new modern exhibition halls along with pre-function area with exhibition space of 1 lakh sqm.

The Pragati Maidan Convention Centre is designed for a capacity of 7000 people and is proposed to be a world-class state of the art Iconic Building deriving its architectural form from the rich architectural heritage of Lutyen’s New Delhi. The entire facility is planned for universal access for the physically challenged. It has a unique, curved and sloping form in glass and GRC cladding with enormous cantilevers.

The project also includes in the first phase over 35 lakh sq. ft. of world-class, state-of-the-art exhibition facilities to meet the needs of industry exhibitions, trade shows, product demonstrations, corporate events and related activities at both national and international levels.
